With Sleepwalk I was trying to create something peaceful, yet powerful. The idea of the delayed bell line was the starting point from which the rest of the track is anchored. The kick aims to be the driving force for the track, the double bass tries to pull it back behind the beat, and everything else sits comfortably in between.

The introduction of the beat at the 1:30 mark is a pivotal part of the track and somehow captures the entire essence I was trying to create in one quick breath. The elements seem to fit perfectly together and crescendo quickly allowing the kick instantly become the focal point; I must say I’m particularly pleased with this part.

It’s an interesting release for me because, although I am pleased with the arrangement, and feel the tune has merit in it’s composition, I was never fully happy with the production. The bells never quite held together the way I intended, and somehow I could never find the brightness I was searching for. Saying that, the lower end of the track holds together beautifully, and I’m extremely pleased with the way my awkwardly deep double bass came out, (it’s always been a tricky beast to record).
